Supporting the Welsh Government Floating Offshore Wind Task and Finish Group through evidence-based industrial intelligence.

The Challenge
Wales needed to understand the manufacturing capability that could support a future Floating Offshore Wind supply chain — not simply identify companies already working in offshore wind.

The Intelligence
Starting with approximately seven million Companies House records, the analysis progressively refined active Welsh manufacturers and assessed all four registered SIC codes to reveal transferable engineering capability.

The Outcome
The work identified 1,830 Welsh manufacturing companies with potential FLOW relevance and supported a more capability-led approach to industrial strategy.

What Changed?

The question shifted from “Who is already in offshore wind?” to “What manufacturing capability already exists in Wales?” That broadened the potential supply chain considerably.

Why It Matters

Manufacturers in automotive, aerospace, rail, defence, steel, nuclear and advanced engineering may possess highly transferable capability even without previous offshore wind experience.
